The Long Island Arts Council at Freeport offers a variety of programs and services. The Arts Council administers High 5 Long Island (a program providing teenagers with $5 tickets to cultural events and special youth programming), presents concerts and exhibits, is active in community development, sponsors a juried photography show, recommends artists for employment and exhibit opportunities, coordinates art classes, donates musical instruments to schools in underserved communities, manages an international musical composition contest, organizes craft fairs, hosts arts networking opportunities, coordinates management seminars, implements an online Culture Calendar, listing of opportunities for artists, and Artist Directory, and more.

CLUB FREEPORT - FRANK SANCHEZ
Thursday, June 17, 2010 Frank Sanchez performed An Evening on Broadway to a standing-room only crowd as part of the Club Freeport Concert Series co-sponsored by the Long Island Arts Council at Freeport and Village of Freeport. This concert/lecture featured Broadway music of the 1920s to the 1950s - the music of George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and Richard Rodgers, to name a few.

THE ART ALCOVE RIBBON CUTTING AND RECEPTION
A reception was held on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 to celebrate the renovation of The Art Alcove Gallery located in the Freeport Recreation Center. This project was funded by Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg. The enclosure will ensure the safety of the artwork and provide a more accessible viewing space for the public.
Special thanks to Compare Foods, Love and Quiches, T & L Beer and Soda Distributors, King Kullen, and Terranova Florist for their donations for the reception.

SIXTH INTERNATIONAL MUSICAL COMPOSITION CONTEST
Supported by Sam Ash Music Stores Contest Chair: Herb Rothgarber Judges: Jay Anthony Gach and Dana Richardson
Fifty-nine entries were received from all over the world, including England, Australia, Canada, Italy, Belgium, New Zealand, and the United States. The winning composition was performed at the Long Island Composers Alliance Music for Students program on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at the Freeport Memorial Library.
FIRST PRIZE: Amanda Jacobs of Rochester, NY for Garden Verses (voice and piano) SECOND PRIZE: Sang Mi Ahn of Bloomington, IN for Two Pieces for Violin and Piano

The mission of the Center is to promote excellence in leadership by providing multifaceted resources that are responsive to the needs of Long Island's nonprofit sector.
