An Exciting New Season

Welcome to the 2007/8 season of High 5 Long Island. Thanks to the generosity of our participating organizations, there are many exciting, live performances offered to High 5 teen members, all for $5 or less per ticket! Our theater listings are plentiful, and range from several productions of Shakespeare’s works to Huckleberry Finn and Peter Pan. Music choices include performances by Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, Alexa Ray Joel, Itzhak Perlman, the African Children’s Choir, and more. There is also a diverse selection of dance, comedy, opera, cabaret, art, and other disciplines, including Kung Fu! Check the calendar pages for the specifics. And always remember, before traveling to any High 5 venue, call to check the availability of the programs and ask about ticketing procedures. Some venues allow advance purchase, others require same-day sales. The individual box offices determine the High 5 ticketing rules.

Staller Center for the Arts welcomes High 5 Long Island Students!
The Long Island Arts Council at Freeport is pleased to welcome a new participating organization to the High 5 Long Island program. Staller Center for the Arts, located on the Stony Brook University campus, offers a variety of exciting, live performances at its Main Stage theater and Recital Halls. Each High 5 member may purchase up to two $5 tickets per event, one hour prior to the event. Check the calendar listings for more information on Staller Center offerings, which include dance, opera, music, theater, and other types of performances by artists such as Savion Glover, Chick Corea, New Century Saxophone Quartet, the Moscow Festival Ballet, Cirque Eloise, and others. Check out www.stallercenter.com for details about the performances and directions to the theater. As always, contact the box office (631-632-ARTS) to check availability.

Attention Teen Writers and Journalists:  Get on TRaC.

With the new season, comes a new session of the Teen Reviewers and Critics (TRaC) program. TRaC is an exciting opportunity for High School students interested in journalism and/or the arts. Students learn to deepen their understanding of the arts and critical writing by working with professional critics to evaluate live performances and art exhibits. A typical TRaC session includes two writing seminars and a performance/exhibit. For information about the new TRaC session, call 516-223-2522.
