The Arts Council at Freeport is embarking on a funded mural arts project. Initial funding (for the artist fee and materials) is provided by the AARP Community Challenge grant. Additional funding will be used for other expenses (site preparation, equipment, site safety, etc.) We’re requesting that interested muralists contact us through our email to learn more about the project and how to submit your portfolio and mural idea for consideration. (In the email subject line type: “Mural Project”). Submissions must be received by July 31, 2018 (EXTENDED TO AUGUST 20TH). The mural should reflect the artist’s interpretation of Freeport’s history (http://freeporthistorymuseum.org), geography and community, as well as the site location. So many of Freeport's current murals are realistic depictions of boats, waves, docks, etc. We're hoping this mural to be more fun, whimsical, interpretive, a bit abstract.
Mural wall is part of the Freeport Memorial Library, 144 West Merrick Rd., Freeport NY 11520
Brick wall dimensions: 53 feet long; 20 feet high; panel design in wall is 171 inches wide by 80 inches high
There are three panels; same size and brick pattern.
(Your choice to just paint the panels, or the entire wall, or any combination)
Wall will be power washed.
Will have powerlift (cherrypicker).
Project budget is between $4,000 and $9,000
Commencement Date: after Labor Day
Completion Date: November 5th
Front entrance to library from Merrick Rd. with mural wall on left.
Close up perspective of the wall (sign can be removed).
View of wall from across the front lawn. Library entrance is on the right.
Close ups of brick pattern in wall 'panel'. All three panels are identical.
Send your submissions as attachments by email to infoLIACF@gmail.com or use a cloud-based file system (i.e., dropbox, etc.). In the subject line, type "Mural Project").
Please provide at least 3 and no more than 7 work samples of previous mural projects.
A concept drawing and dimensions for the proposed mural design for this specific location. (Once selected, you may submit a more detailed drawing/design.)
Your submission will be evaluated based
on the following criteria:
Professional qualifications, documented capability and experience to complete the project successfully in the required timeframe.
Artistic excellence, innovation, originality, and/or perspective
Level of relevance to theme as stated above.
Artwork submitted is Artist’s original, creative work - Proposals which contain imagery that is copyrighted by a different entity, stolen or copied from any other source will not be considered. Historic images/imagery may be incorporated if public domain or with permission for use.
Application is submitted by the published deadline.
Proposed budget for your services. This budget is expected to be complete. Please be sure to include information about the number of people that will be working on the mural (e.g. just you, or a chosen crew, paints, supplies).
Submissions must be identified with an alias – this will be a blind judging system. Include a separate document that has your alias and your true name and contact information.
Submit any questions, clarifications, etc. to the same email address.
This mural project must be completed by November of this year.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
